Il comandante Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger è il pilota di un aereo che decolla la mattina del 15 gennaio 2009 dall'aeroporto LaGuardia di New York ed impatta contro uno stormo di uccelli pochi istanti dopo, perdendo così entrambi i motori. A quel punto il pilota tenta di salvare i 155 passeggeri con un disperato ammaraggio sul fiume Hudson e riesce nell'impresa senza provocare vittime. Sully viene acclamato e considerato un eroe dall'opinione pubblica, tuttavia viene posto sotto inchiesta dall'ente aeronautico per non aver seguito il protocollo di volo ed aver messo in grave pericolo l'equipaggio e i passeggeri, e anche l'assicurazione lo accusa di aver causato la distruzione dell'aereo.<br>Combattuto tra i sensi di colpa e la soddisfazione per aver salvato tante persone, Sully deve affrontare la commissione di inchiesta che cerca di dimostrare la possibilità di atterrare in aeroporti vicini all'area del guasto. In particolare l'accusa si avvale sia di simulazioni di volo al computer che di sessioni al simulatore di volo che confutano la tesi che il pilota non avrebbe avuto altra scelta che l'ammaraggio sull'Hudson. In una drammatica sequenza finale Sully dimostra che le condizioni su cui si basavano le simulazioni erano imprecise ed errate e che solo la sua rischiosa scelta avrebbe potuto salvare i passeggeri, riuscendo così ad essere scagionato ed a venire ricordato come un eroe.

US Airways and America West Airlines merged in 2005, and they received a single operator certificate from the FAA in October of 2008. Since this accident occurred in 2009, the ICAO identification (which is what is displayed on radar scopes) would have been "AWE", which is a throwback to America West. So the radar scope should have shown "AWE1549" instead of "USA1549". <br>------------------------<br><br>Tom Hanks running through Times Square passes numerous "Aladdin" posters/flags (on lampposts). "Aladdin" opened on Broadway in 2014. <br>------------------------<br><br>Although the film is set in January, in numerous shots the trees along the banks of the Hudson are in full leaf. <br>------------------------<br><br>In some aerial shots of LaGuardia, planes painted in the current liveries of United Airlines and American Airlines can be seen. However, those liveries weren't introduced until 2010 and 2013, respectively. <br>------------------------<br><br>In an early scene showing LaGuardia airport, a Continental Airlines Boeing 737 is shown with Split Scimitar Winglets that were not introduced on commercial aircraft until 2014. <br>------------------------<br><br>Sully walks past a Toyota Prius V taxi model, launched in 2011. <br>------------------------<br><br>On the A320's ECAM a gauge for EPR was shown, however at the time US Airways A320s were solely CFM engines, which rely on N1 primarily, not EPR. <br>------------------------<br><br>In an overhead shot of LGA an American Airline CRJ is shown parked next to the UsAirways A320. In 2009 the two Un-merged airlines were at different terminals at LGA. <br>------------------------<br><br>A Times Square marquee advertises Cole Swindell, who wasn't on the music scene until around 2013. <br>------------------------<br><br>One of the taxis is a Ford C-Max cab, introduced in 2012. <br>------------------------<br><br>In s few shots right before the landing, 432 Park Avenue, the tallest building in Midtown at 1,396 ft s clearly seen. Comnstruction of 432 Park Avenue started on Sep. 2011, 2.5 years after the landing takes place. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is jogging at night in Times Square he stops at West 44th Street and by The Shubert Theater with Matilda playing. Matilda didn't open until 2013. <br>------------------------<br><br>Views of Weehawken, NJ waterfront show Lennar's "The Avenue". Construction on that building hadn't begun in 2009. <br>------------------------<br><br>The USS Intrepid Air Sea and Space Museum is depicted as having a large pavilion on the aft portion of its flight deck. This pavilion was built to house the Space Shuttle Enterprise between 2012 and 2013. <br>------------------------<br><br>Several cars have New York "Empire Gold" license plates, introduced in 2010. <br>------------------------<br><br>An aerial shot of LGA shows a tower which didn't start operating until late 2010. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is running through Times Square, a PlayStation 4 ad can be seen in the background. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is walking through downtown NYC, one of the cabs is a 2015 Toyota. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully leaves the airport news stand after buying a sandwich before his fateful January 15, 2009 flight, magazine issues published in February 2015 and October 2015 are visible on the racks. The most prominent issue visible during the whole scene is New York Magazine's 2009 "Best of New York" issue, but that was a double-issue dated about six weeks later (March 2-9, 2009). <br>------------------------<br><br>While jogging through Times Square, Sully turns onto 44th Street and you see the marquee for the Playstation Theater, which was called the Nokia Theater until 2010. It became the Playstation Theater in 2015. <br>------------------------<br><br>In a couple long distance shots of Manhattan the completed One World Trade Center is seen. In January 2009 One World Trade Center was early in construction and only about 100 feet into the ear. <br>------------------------<br><br>On each of the successful simulator landings in LGA and TEB the Airbus would have had an aural alert saying the French word "retard, retard" (stop, stop). This is a cue for the pilots to retard or close the thrust levers while flaring for the landing. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the final simulation, the Airbus is clearly in a stall before impact. However, there is no stall horn (in the A320, this is accompanied by a male voice calling "Stall! Stall!") <br>------------------------<br><br>After landing the stricken F-4 phantom in the flashback sequence, Sully's RIO addresses him as "sir" after the landing. However, both Sully and the RIO are Captains as indicated by the stenciling next to the canopy. Two officers of equal rank would not address each other as "sir". <br>------------------------<br><br>In the flashback to Sully's Air Force emergency landing there are several inconsistencies related to headings and runway alignment. He is instructed to land on runway 21 but actually touches down on runway 22, either 21 or 22 would exist but not both. At one point he states to be on a heading of "020" after clearly having the runway in sight. This is not feasible as the numbers "22" for a runway indicate its magnetic heading, thus the final approach heading would be 220. A heading of 020 would have him traveling away from the airport. <br>------------------------<br><br>About the middle of the movie Sully struggles his way towards the rear end of the plane waist deep in the water to check if everyone has evacuated. Seconds later when he goes into pilot's cabin his pants are completely dry. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the sit-down interview with Katie Couric, a ring magically appears on her left hand. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the rescue ferry team heads out into the Hudson, Barry Leonard is given a hat to warm up, the hat disappears for a scene and appears back immediately afterwards. <br>------------------------<br><br>During the hearing when the simulation was run, right before touchdown, you could see the departure end markings (single white line on either side, then double white line, indicating the aircraft was almost out of runway, but when the camera cut back to a forward looking shot, they had plenty of runway ahead of them. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the aircraft push-back scene, the aircraft is powered by IAE V2500 engines and in most other shots, particularly the ones involving the bird strike and glide before ditching, the aircraft is shown having CFM 56 engines. <br>------------------------<br><br>On multi-engine planes, the engines are numbered from left to right. After the bird strike, when Sully observed, "We've got one rolling back... We have both of them rolling back," he almost certainly would have been referring to Engine #1, the left engine, and not to "one (unspecified) engine." This is more clearly addressed in the first simulation run, where the co-pilot comments "Number One rolling back... and Number Two." The instrumentation, however, depicts Engine #2, the right engine, failing first in both cases. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the plane is shown at the gate at La Guardia before push back the gate numbers shown in the aerial shot, the view through the cockpit window and mentioned by ATC are all different. <br>------------------------<br><br>The crew confirm that 21800 pounds of fuel are loaded before take off, but the same fuel value is shown when the engines roll back after the bird strike. <br>------------------------<br><br>For the first simulated landing at LaGuardia, the plane approaches from the southwest, landing on runway 4, which is the most direct route back to the airport and the only one that makes sense. But for the second simulation (with the 35 second delay), the craft approaches from the northeast, attempting to land on runway 22--the same runway, but in the opposite direction. This makes no sense, because they would have had to fly past the airport, turn around and then come back. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully looked out of the room window, In Manhattan, at the street below where reporters and news vans were gathered at least two of the news vans were from San Francisco television affiliates (KRON 4 and KTVU 2) instead of New York affiliates. <br>------------------------<br><br>The movie showed the FAA HQ building. Then the next shot showed the NTSB Public Hearing Room. The NTSB is actually located around the corner in DC from the FAA. They are not in the same building. <br>------------------------<br><br>No slide is visible when the forward boarding door is opened, forcing a passenger to jump into the river. While this is a factual moment that actually happened (the forward slide did not inflate immediately and a passenger was directed by a flight attendant to jump into the river), that slide would still have been visible, albeit not inflated. Evacuation slides are stored in "slide packs" that are attached to the inside of the aircraft door. When the door is armed, part of the slide that is attached to what is called a "girt bar" is hooked into the floor of the aircraft. As a result, if the door is opened when armed, the slide falls from the slide pack in the door while still connected to the girt bar and the aircraft, and would normally automatically inflate. In this case, the slide fell out, but malfunctioned and did not inflate. In real life, it was inflated manually by the flight attendant. In this scene, no slide is visible at all until it appears between shots and starts inflating. <br>------------------------<br><br>For dramatical purposes, many aspects of the NTSB investigation were not portrayed correctly. No accident investigator tries to put blame on a pilot, or makes them justify their actions. They are only interested in improving aviation safety by studying all the facts. (Many countries do not even allow investigation reports to be used for legal purposes.) Then, the investigation is based on a transcript of the cockpit voice recording, which often takes weeks and sometimes months to prepare (e.g. acoustic engineers researching the source and the significance of each sound). Likewise, simulator trials take a long time to prepare, refine and interpret. Although the NTSB holds public hearings, they are not run like a court proceeding - they are a tool go gather additional information from interested parties, and to discuss evidence and findings. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is ditching the aircraft on the Hudson, he is shown to be looking out the front cockpit window and seeing the river approaching. In reality, he had the aircraft at quite a steep pitch, so though he could have seen the river approaching out his side window, out the front window he would have only seen sky. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is having a medical checkup after the crash, he is examined by a doctor using an ophthalmoscope. The instrument is not turned on and is not close enough to enable an examination of the internal eye.. <br>------------------------<br><br>One of the NTSB members states that they will prove that the left engine was still running at "idle or below" after the bird strike. There is no "below idle" on a jet engine. The lowest consistent setting is idle. Any RPM below that indicates that the engine is either climbing to idle after starting, or dropping from idle to zero during engine shutdown. <br>------------------------<br><br>The NTSB was portrayed horribly in this movie. They investigate purely on facts, not going on witch hunts like this movie implies. In the movie they tried to "second guess" and "blame the pilot." This never happens in real life. <br>------------------------<br><br>Even if the left engine had been found to still be running at idle after the bird strike, it could not have provided enough power to sustain flight long enough to reach the nearest airport, especially with the other engine shut down and the plane burdened by its heavy weight of fuel and a full passenger load. <br>------------------------<br><br>In some shots after the bird strikes, you could see flames coming from the bypass fans (outer rings of engines). No combustion takes place in the bypass fans, so these should not be burning. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the Airbus is pushing back from the Jetway, we see the flight attendants giving the safety demo, you can clearly see that the forward left boarding door is disarmed (arming lever is up). This needs to be armed in order for plane to push back. Also, the slides would not deploy at that door when opened after the landing. <br>------------------------<br><br>In one of the scenes showing the take-off from RNY 4 of LGA, before engaging max thrust, the N2 is displayed at 92% whereas it should be almost idle. <br>------------------------<br><br>Sully is seen in Times Square, jogging past people sitting at outdoor tables in the pedestrian plaza. The pedestrian plaza in Times Square was first opened in late May 2009, several months after the events of this film (which takes place in January 2009). The metal tables and chairs seen in the film didn't appear in Times Square until August 2009. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the flight deck scenes, one of the engine parameters displayed is "EPR." This applies only to A320s with IAE V2500 engines. The "Miracle on the Hudson" A320 had CFM56 engines, so the parameter should have read "N1." <br>------------------------<br><br>During the flashback to Sully's Air Force days, he is shown landing an F-4E at Nellis AFB after an inflight emergency. The Phantom displays the tail markings for the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing (NA). However, the 474th flew "D" model F-4's that had been transferred from RAF Lakenheath around 1977. Unlike the "E" model, the "D" model did not have the pitot tube on its nose nor the internal Vulcan cannon under the radome. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is looking at the USS Intrepid, a USAF F-4 Phantom is shown on the deck. In reality, the Phantom aboard the Intrepid is in a completely different position and is in USMC markings, specifically those of VMFA-323, the Death Rattlers. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the scene where Sully is at he airport gift shop before the flight, the camera pans past an end cap with Minions headphones on display. Despicable Me was not released until June 2010 and no Minions merchandise would have been available this soon before the release of the movie (almost a year and a half early). <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is running through Times Square, he passes a U.S. military recruiting station. The station's TV display says "America's Navy", when that slogan was not introduced until later in the same year. <br>------------------------<br><br>The plane's automated ground proximity warning system announces warning as they near the GW bridge and after they pass it, it announces "Clear of Conflict" - in reality, GPWS does not announce clear of conflict, however clear of conflict is an audible annunciation via TCAS if another plane were approaching necessitating a conflict advisory and resolution. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is about to enter the plane at about 27:31 with his carry-on, he drops an item of clothing. The stewardess sees this but does nothing. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the passenger that had jumped in the river is helped onto the rescue boat he's wearing the copilots shirt that's draped over him to help warm him. When the copilot gets on board the rescue boat he's wearing his shirt, tie and jacket. <br>------------------------<br><br>Sully has just walked through the plane in knee high water, but when he is pulled to the rescue boat his pants are dry. <br>------------------------<br><br>The cockpit voice recording is highly sensitive in nature. It would never be played in front of hundreds of people like in the movie. In fact, it is illegal for the NTSB to release any portion of the recording to the press. (Fair: That is why the CVR is listened to on headphones, so that only those directly involved in the hearing have access). <br>------------------------<br><br>At no time during the NTSB hearing are the lives of people on the ground considered. If Sully had chosen to try for either La Guardia or Teterboro airports, he would also have had to consider the possible loss of life other than passengers and crew had he crashed. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is jogging through Times Square, an advertisement is shown for Party City's Halloween display, unsuited for January. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Sully is heading into the plane a Black cloth falls off his suitcase, it is never retrieved. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the flashback to Sully's Air Force days,when making an emergency approach in an F-4 Phantom fighter mock-up cockpit, it appears that they did not have the correct parachute riser/harness fittings available. Sully and his rear crewman's parachute harnesses fittings are not connected to their ejection seats and it appears they jury-rigged some kind of setup to make the seats's parachute risers appear to be shoulder harnesses. <br>------------------------<br><br>
