Topper Harley è un pilota della Marina degli Stati Uniti congedato per aver disobbedito ad un ordine diretto, figlio di un ex pilota ritenuto responsabile di un incidente aereo nel quale aveva perso la vita un compagno d'armi. Il giovane risulta essere un pilota molto capace, tuttavia un po' ribelle e con qualche problema caratteriale a causa di un sempre presente conflitto interiore col padre al quale viene spesso paragonato. Reintegrato nell'arma per prendere parte alla delicata missione "Donnola Addormentata" incontra una giovane psicologa, Ramada, la quale cerca di sondarne le facoltà intellettive ed i limiti. I due lentamente si innamorano, proprio mentre Topper inizia ad entrare in competizione con Kent Gregory, pilota anch'egli, figlio dell'uomo che perì a causa del padre di Topper, nonché ex fidanzato di Ramada. Sul punto di essere costretto ad abbandonare definitivamente gli aerei della Marina militare americana, Topper si rende conto che è in atto un sabotaggio per far fallire la missione per la quale era stato richiamato.

When Dead Meat's plane is crashing and Topper turns Dead Meat's wife around so she doesn't see, the mirror is behind them. She says "Oh No" but you don't see her mouth moving in the mirror <br>------------------------<br><br>When Topper enters the base on his motorcycle the first time, the gate guard salutes him even through he is not wearing any officer rank. <br>------------------------<br><br>The ambulance drives past Wash Out's parachute, but in the next shot, the parachute is caught on the bumper. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Admiral Benson is talking to his secretary and Lt. Block enters, there is man sitting at the table who disappears in subsequent shots and is not seen leaving the room. <br>------------------------<br><br>During the Superman sequence, Ramada's earring on the right disappears and reappears several times. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the ambulance is approaching Dead Meat's crash site, it's an older model Ford. When it stops by the crater, it's a Chevy. After it picks him up and starts driving again, it's back to an older model Ford, and then when it pulls into the hospital it's a Chevy again. <br>------------------------<br><br>During Dead Meat's crash the ambulance's license plates have different numbers. <br>------------------------<br><br>After bailing out, Wash Out lands a "square" (ram air) parachute. In the next and subsequent scenes, he is being dragged by a round ("mushroom") canopy. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Harley does his stunt on his bike and Ramada does the stunt on the tree you can see the gymnastics bar briefly behind the branch <br>------------------------<br><br>When Admiral Benson offers pudding to Block, one can cleary see in the top left corner a "hose" that ejects the "pudding" into Block's face. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the beginning of the scene where Benson asks Block to see him in his office, a crew member wearing a light-blue T-shirt is seen on the left side of the screen, right before Benson takes a sip from his mug. <br>------------------------<br><br>A couple of times, the camera and crew can be seen in the reflection of Topper's sunglasses. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the battle at the end of the movie, the shadow of the crane holding the miniature plane on the mountain is visible when Topper brakes behind a mountain, turns around the corner and follows the enemy jets. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Admiral Benson first gets off the plane at the beginning of the film and is being led off to find out about the mission, what looks like a camera shadow appears on a plane engine to the right of the frame. <br>------------------------<br><br>Dead Meat says that Topper is AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave). The Navy does use the term, but only after thirty days without making muster, until then he would UA (Unauthorised Absence.) <br>------------------------<br><br>When Buzz walks forward on top of the crashing plane, the wires holding him up can be seen. <br>------------------------<br><br>The rocket pods on the US Navy aircraft can be seen to have painted on ejector ports on the front. If they were real the ejector ports would be recessed to allow the rockets out. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the ambulance stopped at the hospital, you can see the hand of the paramedic at the left of the screen waiting for Wash Out to hit the ambulance so he can run out to open the door. <br>------------------------<br><br>
