John Rambo è reduce del Vietnam, è malinconico e deluso, la guerra gli ha lasciato segni profondi. Va a trovare un suo commilitone e viene a sapere che è appena morto di cancro. Riprende dunque la sua strada e si imbatte nello sceriffo locale che gli ordina di andarsene. Rambo non intende subire imposizioni, del resto non ha fatto proprio niente. Lo sceriffo lo provoca e, con l'aiuto dei suoi agenti, lo arresta. Rambo, che in Vietnam ne ha viste di tutti i colori e si porta dentro brutte memorie, esplode. Addestrato a combattimenti al limite delle possibilità umane, ha facilmente ragione dei poliziotti e riesce a fuggire. Comincia la caccia all'uomo fra boschi, torrenti e rocce. Rambo gioca in casa, ferisce e uccide. Si muove persino la guardia nazionale ma l'ex soldato sembra davvero invulnerabile. Farebbe una strage maggiore se non intervenisse il suo ex comandante, colonnello Trautman, a fermarlo. Rambo si arrende e, piangendo, urla tutta la sua rabbia di essere umano disperato e abbandonato dalla società, per la quale aveva rischiato la vita e compromesso la propria integrità. Film di grande successo popolare, divenuto oggetto di strane strumentalizzazioni e definizioni. Si è detto che Rambo fosse la traduzione dei concetti della politica di Reagan: dunque col ricorso ai soliti termini "destra", "fascismo", "edonismo" eccetera. Rambo non è un buon film, è un astuto prodotto che funziona bene nei tempi, nei "muscoli" e nelle sequenze d'azione. Tutto il resto è da lasciare alle infinite possibilità dialettiche della critica. Il film ha avuto due sequels. Questi sì che hanno cercato altre implicazioni politiche, inutili e demagogiche. Rambo diventava via via l'angelo sterminatore dei vecchi nemici vietnamiti e degli storici nemici russi, rappresentati esattamente come i Sioux e gli Apaches dei film western. Il film ha aperto la strada a un'infinità di produzioni che hanno ricalcato nei modi e nei tempi quell'originale, con un canovaccio proposto e riproposto, e ora quasi bloccato.

When Rambo is racing down the pavement on the motorcycle, shouting "get out of the way" to terrified pedestrians, his mouth indicates he is shouting "fucking move it". <br>------------------------<br><br>During the bike/patrol car chase in the beginning, Rambo rides a Yamaha XT 4-stroke bike - the sound effect is that of a 2-stroke. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the police are hunting Rambo is the woods, Mitch say something along the lines of, "Hunting? We ain't hunting him. He's hunting us." If you look closely at his mouth, it's not even moving. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the owner of the dogs has been shot you can still hear more than 1 dog barking, even though the other 2 are already dead. <br>------------------------<br><br>During his conversation with Sheriff Teasle (just before the "body bags" comment), Col. Troutman's mouth movements are slightly out of sync. <br>------------------------<br><br>Col. Trautman lectures the sheriff, describing Rambo's tombstone in Arlington National Cemetery as saying "Here lies John Rambo ... killed in Jerkwater, USA". In reality, Arlington does not inscribe tombstones with such sayings. Stones simply bear name, rank, dates of birth, death and a Cross, Star of David, or Islamic crescent. (May count as "intentional goof" as Trautman may have been simply making a point to sheriff). <br>------------------------<br><br>While telling Teasle Rambo's accomplishments, Col. Trautman should have listed the last as the Medal of Honor. As a high ranking Army officer, he would know that it is not called the "Congressional" Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is awarded in the name of Congress, but given by the President. <br>------------------------<br><br>Rambo steals the 2 1/2 ton truck. It has an M60 machine gun in the back. Rambo jumps the cop cars with the truck. The truck lands and the tail gate flips open with no gun. When the truck drives away the tail gate is up. When Rambo stops the truck he gets out and the M60 is just sitting in back with ammo ready to grab. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the sheriff first chases Rambo on the motorcycle, the left front hubcap flies off the patrol car twice. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Rambo hijacks the convoy truck and forces the driver out, the driver jogs away from the opposite direction Rambo drives in the truck. In the next scene, Teasle drives up the road, approaching the jogging cop from behind. Teasle would have met Rambo on the road from the direction he was driving. <br>------------------------<br><br>In a chase scene, the parking light lens pops off the sheriff's car when it hits a bump and is back in the next shot. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo picks up the tarpaulin to use as a coat he throws away the sheath from his knife. You then see him pick the knife up from the tree and run off. Later in the film he is seen using the sheath again. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo is driving truck over the bridge road block towards the end of the movie, it is daylight. When he reaches the town which is not that far from the bridge, it is dark. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the cliff scene, where Galt is shooting from the helicopter, the rock formation of the cliff Rambo is hanging on to changes to two different shapes. Rambo does not move from the time he is being shot at until he jumps. <br>------------------------<br><br>When John is escaping from the police station on a motorcycle, chased by Sheriff Teasle, the police car gets very dirty but in later scenes it is all clean again. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Rambo steals the Army truck and is being chased by the police car, he turns off the main road. He turns behind another Army truck. However, the second truck disappears from the scene shortly after Rambo pulls behind it and never reappears. <br>------------------------<br><br>Rear view mirror in sheriff's car. <br>------------------------<br><br>Rambo is hiding on the hillside above the road waiting for an opportunityto jump onto the canvas top of the last truck in the convoy. As that truck approaches the canvas sides are unrolled and "down". Seconds later when he jumps on top, the canvas is rolled "up" halfway. Seconds later as the same truck in shown going down the road the sides are back down. <br>------------------------<br><br>During the initial chase with the motorcycle, the sheriff's car's rear right hubcap disappears and reappears several times. <br>------------------------<br><br>Before going through a police roadblock, the windshield of Rambo's vehicle is cracked by gunfire. After the roadblock, the bullet holes disappear. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo is running from the police, just before the jump to the tree, he has a decent amount of stubble on his face, which is why the cops wanted to shave him earlier. When he comes back from seeing the cliff, there is a close-up of his face and he is clean-shaven. <br>------------------------<br><br>The white markings on the front of the truck that Rambo drives during the chase, change between shots. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo falls through the trees after jumping off the cliff, he becomes caught (impaled) on his left arm. He hangs for a few seconds by his left arm before the branch breaks and he falls the rest of the way to the ground. When he rolls over, he is clutching his right arm, which is covered in blood. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the sheriff follows Rambo into the woods, Rambo surprises him and shoves him against a tree and cuts his left cheek. Throughout the rest of the film, the cut is on his right cheek. <br>------------------------<br><br>When John holds the knife to Teasle's throat in the woods, the placement of the knife changes. <br>------------------------<br><br>When we first see Rambo listening in on the police transmissions, it is night time. When the scene then cuts to Teasle trying to convince Trautman to talk Rambo out of hiding (or at least giving away his position) it is the middle of the afternoon. When Trautman actually gets round to talking to Rambo via the radio, it is night again. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the cave, Rambo is making his way through the water. There is nothing on his back going around the corner. Rambo rounds the corner and there are several rats on his back. They are crawling all over him. Several seconds go by before he actually notices them. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Teasle wrecks his police cruiser, the horn is stuck in the "on" position. It stays on for several seconds and then magically becomes unstuck without explanation. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo hangs on the cliff, the water underneath flows to the right and in the next moment to the left. Later it flows to the right again. <br>------------------------<br><br>As Rambo makes his way through the cave looking for an escape route, he crawls through waist-deep water, only to emerge completely dry. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Rambo jumps through the police blockade at the bridge with the stolen Army truck, he drives through town at night with the windshield wipers on (implying that it is raining), but immediately after when Rambo rams into the gas pumps, it is no longer raining. <br>------------------------<br><br>When John Rambo first steals the motorcycle and begins to ride away the first cop jumps into the patrol car and chase him. In the first camera view from the police car takes place from the rear seat and you can clearly see that the rear-view mirror is missing and you can see where it was supposed to be, but in the following chase scenes you can see the police car NOW with a rear-view mirror. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the final scene in the police station, when Colonel Trautman says "This mission is over" and tells Rambo to look out the window at all the police outside, his rank insignia badge (silver eagle) disappears from his shoulder in the shots where he is facing away from the camera. <br>------------------------<br><br>Rambo pins the sheriff against a tree and slices into his neck after telling him to "let it go". In the next shot, the sheriff has no marks on his neck. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the cave scene Rambo clearly wraps oily rags around his big knife to create a torch. When he finds the exit and bows in relief he drops the torch (knife) and climbs the ladder. In the next scene he pulls the knife on Cathcart Robert A. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the cave scene when Rambo wades through the water with the rats, he gets submerged in the water. When he makes it to the edge he hops out of the water and pulls a dry cloth from his pocket to wrap the burning edge of the torch. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo jumps onto the top of the army truck, a landing pad can be seen underneath the canvas. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo is driving the truck and pushes the cop car into the path of the broken down car, the explosion starts the second the cars make contact. In the next shot during the fireball, the two cables that held the static vehicle in place are visible. <br>------------------------<br><br>Shadow of the cameraman can be seen on the other side of the roof when Teasle first climbs up onto it for the final showdown. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo falls off the cliff and crashes through the tree, you can somewhat see the yellow landing pad at the bottom of the tree. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the Sheriff lets Rambo out of the car and pulls away, the boom operator and cameraman are reflected in the side window of the police car. <br>------------------------<br><br>Even though the movie takes place in the USA, there are several speed limit signs through the movie that are labelled in KM per hour. Also, the clearance on the bridge at the roadblock scene is marked in meters. <br>------------------------<br><br>The film is supposed to portray a fictional town in Hope, Somewhere, USA, but is in fact filmed in real Hope, B.C. Canada. A revealing indication of its true location is the Turbo gas station appearing in the town shots. Turbo Gas was a Canadian-only franchise that had a logo with a Canadian maple leaf in it. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Teasle asks Rambo which direction he is heading, Rambo says "north". Teasle then gives him a ride and while driving, Rambo says he is heading to Portland, which Teasle says, "Portland is south, you said you were heading north." However, a minute later, Teasle drops Rambo off and says Portland is straight ahead but he never turned the car around so he would have still been heading north before dropping Rambo off. <br>------------------------<br><br>This movie is set in America. There is an American flag hanging in front of the police station. The police wear American police uniforms, with American flags on them. During one scene, an officer says "Why don't you let the state police handle this." Yet, during the scenes filmed in town, you can see signs all over the place that say "Hope" and "Kettle Valley" which are parts of the province of British Columbia, Canada, where this movie was filmed. <br>------------------------<br><br>The helicopter than man falls from clearly has a Canadian registry on the bottom, even though it is supposed to be a US registered police helicopter. <br>------------------------<br><br>Improper Military "RTP" (Radio-Telephone Procedure): When COL Troutman tries to make initial radio contact with Rambo, he does not use the proper military procedure that would have been second-nature to both Rambo and him. A full colonel would not have made such a mistake, since it was a "civilian" method depicted. Rambo should have been suspicious of such a mistake, as an unthinkable error by his former commander. Troutman uses the format "Covey Leader to Raven"; i.e., "caller to callee." Proper military RTP, which Troutman would have used, should have been "Raven, this is Covey Leader"; i.e., "callee, this is caller." <br>------------------------<br><br>Colonel Trautman mistakenly wears a U.S. Army Special Forces *crest* on the patch of his "green beret". As he is an officer, he should be wearing the insignia of his rank, i.e. a silver eagle, on his beret patch. The error was corrected for the next two films in the series, Rambo 2 - La vendetta and Rambo III. <br>------------------------<br><br>Colonel Trautman wears the Combat Infantryman's Badge and ribbons with battle stars indicating combat service in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. But his uniform has no overseas bars at the bottom of the sleeve. <br>------------------------<br><br>The sheriff's radio that Rambo is using inside the cave is an F.M. unit. Since F.M. radio transmissions are line-of-sight, sending and receiving signals inside the cave would be impossible. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo got the flashback where he was tortured by the Vietnamese interrogator, the interrogator spoke a sentence in Cantonese, not Vietnamese. <br>------------------------<br><br>Galt and the pilot speak on-board the helicopter without radio headsets. This would be impossible over the sound of the chopper. <br>------------------------<br><br>After the carnage in the woods, and killing a wild pig, Rambo is shown 'scoping' his surroundings, before entering the deserted mine. In the background (and also at other times), crickets or cicadas can be heard, and yet there's snow on the ground, and the opening sequence shows a 'Merry Christmas' garland hanging in the Sheriff's office. Crickets would be long dead by the turn of the year. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the sheriff brings Rambo into the police department in the first 10 minutes of the movie, the lock used is much smaller than the distance between the door handles, i.e. too small to be able to lock the door. <br>------------------------<br><br>During the manhunt for Rambo, Sheriff Teasle informs Mitch that he is going to personally pin the Medal of Honor to Rambo's liver. The Medal of Honor is the only medal worn around the neck. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo and Trautman talk, Rambo never keys the mic on the radio. However, he could have the mic set to voice-activated, a common feature on radios. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the police are spraying Rambo's back with the fire hose, if you look closely you can see pieces of his "scars" coming off. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Rambo is first arrested and booked, one of the officers locks Rambo's large hunting knife in a locker and puts the key in his shirt pocket. However, when Rambo later makes his escape, his knife is sitting out on the counter top, and he quickly grabs it on his way out. <br>------------------------<br><br>Ramp can be seen when Rambo jumps over railroad tracks with motorcycle. <br>------------------------<br><br>None of the rifles or machine guns eject empty cartridge cases when they are fired. Also, they do not recoil. <br>------------------------<br><br>At 1:17:37, near the start of his rampage in town, Rambo, moving from our right to left rounds an alley corner with a building edge to his immediate right, a 6 foot high wooden fence in the near distance behind his left shoulder, and two Post office boxes, a drop box and a bulk storage box such as a carrier would put excess mail in while he finishes his rounds in front of the wall, under his right elbow. At 1:19:40, the film editor flipped that shot, and everything in the shot from 2 minutes earlier is there, just reversed. <br>------------------------<br><br>The police car has neither a rear-view mirror nor a partition between the front and rear seats. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the end scene, with Rambo and the Colonel in the police station,Rambo is talking about how he came home from the war and was met by protesters at the airport and he makes the comment "So I come back from the war and I see all those maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting, calling me baby killer and all kinds of vile crap". However, when the audio says "crap" at the end, his mouth can clearly be seen forming the word "shit". <br>------------------------<br><br>When Galt falls from the helicopter he is holding a rifle, but in the wide shot it is not visible during the stuntman's fall. <br>------------------------<br><br>Camera visible in far left corner when the drug store explodes. <br>------------------------<br><br>Rambo picks up Galt's body to see if he is still alive. Rambo turns his head for a split second. If you look closely when Rambo turns his head, you can see the "fog" from Galt letting out a breath of warm air, indicating that he is still breathing. <br>------------------------<br><br>Deputy Galt is seen to be wearing buckskin-colored cowboyboots while seated in the helicopter. However, when he falls out, the stuntman is wearing low-top black shoes with white socks. His hair is a different color from Galt's, too. <br>------------------------<br><br>
