Antico Egitto. En Sabah Nur, detto Apocalisse e venerato come un dio, sta per compiere il rito di trasferimento della sua anima nel corpo di un mutante che ha il potere di rigenerare le proprie ferite, ottenendo così l'immortalità, ma un gruppo di ribelli lo imprigiona sotto una piramide. Nel 1983, mentre il mondo è ancora in debito con Raven e il Prof. X per aver salvato il Presidente degli Stati Uniti e Magneto ha provato a rifarsi una vita e una famiglia mantenendo l'anonimato, un gruppo di fanatici risveglia dal suo riposo eterno Apocalisse, più che mai intenzionato a riprendere il posto che gli spetta sul trono del mondo.  Riuscire a rendere nuovamente interessanti e coinvolgenti le vicende dei mutanti Marvel senza tradire le aspettative di un film che sia - perché così deve essere per la "Casa delle Idee", si tratti di Disney o di Fox - più grande, grosso e appagante del precedente. Un compito non semplice per Bryan Singer, che per X-Men: Apocalisse si assume più di un rischio. Come mettere in scena un mutante più potente di tutti gli altri e ricontestualizzare i personaggi noti della saga, schierandoli con o contro di lui, fino a pizzicare il mondo sepolto dell'Antico Egitto, cercando di evitare le trappole da peplum digitale stile Gods of Egypt. Una quantità di cose difficile da contenere in un solo film, spropositatamente dilatato, con una parte conclusiva interamente dedicata al drammatico scontro tra i mutanti, con il destino del mondo come posta in palio. Paradossalmente, è proprio questa battaglia epica attorno a cui tutto dovrebbe ruotare a funzionare meno: troppe le aspettative, troppe le forze centrifughe, fino a rendere impossibile anche per uno stratega degli intrecci come Singer mantenere una coesione generale. La minaccia di Apocalisse, un mutante immortale e più potente di tutti gli altri, non fa mai davvero paura, o ne fa assai meno del Magneto di X-Men 2 o di X-Men - Giorni di un futuro passato, e l'eccellenza tecnologica non si traduce automaticamente in coinvolgimento su più livelli narrativi. Alcuni mutanti restano bidimensionali, mentre la loro dimensione umana è già stata abbondantemente sviscerata, a cominciare da quella di Magneto e della sua odissea infinita, dal lager di Auschwitz in avanti. Dove X-Men: Apocalisse invece convince è nel tentativo di trovare un gancio con la realtà o con altri media, senza abbandonarsi totalmente al delirio di esplosioni e scomposizioni della materia da über-disaster-movie digitalizzato. Ad esempio, la scelta di Raven/Mystique come oggetto di fandom, idolo invisibile e inarrivabile per masse di teenager mutati e disagiati, è un richiamo diretto al fatto che Jennifer Lawrence sia uno dei pochi volti realmente iconici per le nuove generazioni (e ogni riferimento a Hunger Games è tutt'altro che casuale); e questo elemento, anziché allontanare lo spettatore dall'universo narrativo, finisce per coinvolgerlo maggiormente nel plot. D'altronde, esaurito l'effetto prequel e rimandata a data da destinarsi la riscrittura di un finale che non ha convinto nessuno (X-Men - Conflitto finale), il futuro della saga vive nel suo riavvicinamento con il suo pubblico e con la dimensione adolescenziale (una delle scene più riuscite è quella in cui un timido Scott/Cyclops conosce una giovane Jean). Il futuro è (ancora) nel sociale: vince la connessione (mentale) migliore, perde chi rimane solo. Più X-men guarda al suo lato di romance e teen movie, sganciandosi dal puro disaster, e più chance avrà di sopravvivere alla malattia da gigantismo che rischia di far collassare il dominio, fin qui incontrastato, dei blockbuster di supereroi.

When Apocalypse collects the information of the current world from TV, a picture of the Big Buddha in Hong Kong is shown. The construction of the Big Buddha started in 1990, and finished 1993. <br>------------------------<br><br>The Ray-Ban Wayfarers that Cyclops / Scott Summers uses did not come with the Ray-Ban logo on the temples. Wayfarers back in the early / mid 80s had studs on the side. <br>------------------------<br><br>During communism in Poland the law was upheld by Militia rather than police. The scene in question is set in 1983 whilst Poland was still communist. <br>------------------------<br><br>Apparently there were a lot of satellite TV antennas in 1980's Cairo. This seems unlikely given the time period. <br>------------------------<br><br>The film takes place in January of 1983, as it states that the events are around the 10 year anniversary of the Paris Peace Accords from the last movie. But Angel, drunken and distraught, is shown listening to "The Four Horsemen" by Metallica, which was from their debut album Kill 'em All, not released until July 1983. <br>------------------------<br><br>The Tuktuk (The auto rickshaw) was not introduced to Egypt until 2006. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Apocalypse collects the information of the current world from TV, an Israeli army 155 mm artillery howitzer is seen firing a shell. In 1983 there was a war between Israel and Lebanon, however, this specific model was not in service until the mid 90's, plus the concrete slab on the left reads "Israel 2006" (in Hebrew). The footage is probably from the 2006 2nd Lebanon war. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the high school classroom scene near the beginning where Scott Summers (young Cyclops) is getting bullied, he is wearing a '16 varsity jacket. <br>------------------------<br><br>Despite the film taking place around January of 1983, Nightcrawler can be seen wearing the iconic red and black jacket from Michael Jackson: Thriller. However, the music video wouldn't be released until early December of 1983, and since it was designed originally for the video there's no way Nightcrawler could have had even a knock-off yet. <br>------------------------<br><br>The horses in 3600 BC are Friesians, first bred during the 16th century AD. <br>------------------------<br><br>The satellite TV dishes in the early 1980s weren't anything like ones in Cairo, Egypt. The signal from the satellites back then wasn't as strong as modern ones. Whoever could receive the satellite TV signals had to install huge dishes that are 1.5 to 2 metres in diameter. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Moira McTaggert turns-off her flashlight, it makes a "clicking" sound. In the early 1980's, flashlights had "sliding" switches. "Push-button" switches didn't appear until the late 1980s. <br>------------------------<br><br>Stryker's soldiers can be seen wearing the Advanced Combat Helmet (ACH), which is the current standard issue helmet for the US Army. However, the ACH was not fielded until 2003. During the time in which the film is set, US military personnel used the steel M1 combat helmet, which was in use until 1985 when it was replaced by the Kevlar PASGT (Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops) ballistic helmet. <br>------------------------<br><br>The events of the movie take place circa January 1983, as that is the 10 year anniversary of the previous film's events. But a group of mutants goes to see the film Return of the Jedi, which was not released until May 1983. <br>------------------------<br><br>A poster for All'inseguimento della pietra verde is seen in the movie theatre lobby. Considering the low expectations 20th Century Fox had for Romancing the Stone, it's highly unlikely a poster would be seen so many months ahead of its 1984 release. <br>------------------------<br><br>Jubilee is shown wearing a Journey shirt that appears to be from the Frontiers tour. Frontiers was not released until later in 1983 than the film is set, so it is unlikely she would have a shirt. <br>------------------------<br><br>The PC at Moira Mactaggert's office is on and displays CIA seal in color high resolution; in 1983 computer graphic color cards existed but not so good but the fact that a CIAgent could have so expensive equipment, for that time, at her office is quite rare. <br>------------------------<br><br>Toward the end of the film, a yellow Mercedes-Benz 300TD estate is shown with US safety equipment (sealed beam headlights, yellow fog lamps, and beefier bumpers). United States was only country in the early 1980s to require those safety equipment. It would be economically unfeasible to import into Egypt from the United States when it's cheaper to do from Europe. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the beginning of the film, there are four horsemen. Except horses were not introduced in Egypt until about 2,000 years later. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the beginning of the film, one of the horsemen appears to be wearing a gold mask of a tiger. If that is the case, it is incorrect, as there were no tigers in Egypt. It is possible it was meant to show a cheetah or leopard. A lion would also be incorrect, as there were no lions in Egypt--which is ironic, since jewelers who make cartouche necklaces use a lion to symbolize the letter "L," which has no comparison in the Egyptian language of that time. <br>------------------------<br><br>Quicksilver's Ms. Pac-Man figure dies, but the sound effect is that of Pac Man dying, not Ms. Pac Man. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the opening scene, due to the floor falling, Apocalypse and the mutant power transfer chamber are dropped for over 20 seconds; that fall time would mean they fell 1.2 km max. When Apocalypse is rejuvenated however the camera appears to show Apocalypse only a few meters below the top of the pyramid which itself appears to be extremely close to Earth's surface. However, when the sunlight strikes the cap, the light lines race down the ruins, reaching far below (hundreds, if not thousands of feet) below the cap to wake Apocalypse. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the world destruction scenes, Magneto's helmet appears to be rather metallic blue, but when Apocalypse hands it to him, it is coppery, perhaps burnt orange.In shadow, burnt orange/copper does not turn dark blue. <br>------------------------<br><br>Magneto's beard changes length throughout the film, even within single scenes. When Apocalypse has kidnapped Charles and they're standing on the rock, he goes from having a quarter inch (6mm) beard to being clean shaven. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Scott is first introduced to Charles Xavier, Xavier is in a circle of students in his motorized wheelchair.In the next scene, which seems to follow immediately after, Xavier, Hank, Scott and his brother Alex are walking along the edge of a lake on the grounds of Xavier's school. Xavier is now in a manual wheelchair.<br><br>While it is possible he wanted to appear outdoors only in an archaic wheelchair (as he did when he visited the CIA later), it seems unlikely he would have switched from his motorized one to the manual one if he was only going out on his own school's grounds. <br>------------------------<br><br>The opening scene shows the sun raising behind the funerary boat and the shadows match in the long shot. The close-ups show the same shadows from the North (90 degree change in direction). A latter scene shows the sun shinning directly in the entrance so the change can't be explained by a delay between the long and close shots. <br>------------------------<br><br>On the wall at what is supposedly Auschwitz, you see a sign whose first word is Danger. In English. <br>------------------------<br><br>In Ostberlin, one of Lada Riva cars was seen with illuminated side running lamps, which were exclusive to the Canadian market. The Soviet or East German version would have none of these. <br>------------------------<br><br>Auschwitz seems to be abandoned and deserted. In reality the camp was turned into a museum in 1947. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Apocalypse touches the television in Cairo and says he is "Learning", the next shot shows the rooftops with many smallish satellite dishes in view. This is set in the early eighties when satellite dishes for TV were much larger. <br>------------------------<br><br>When a sub launches a rocket, it is underwater when doing so. It uses compressed air to propel the rocket through the water into the air then ignite rockets. In this movie they portray as the door opens no water rushes in so it must not be underwater. <br>------------------------<br><br>None of the plot-holes related to time lines on this page are relevant. X-Men - Giorni di un futuro passato led to a new time-line being written. Which would most likely lead to causal effects that people wouldn't expect. Advancements in satellite technology, bands and film release dates changing and if there has been a great deal of battleground activities changes in nuclear programs. The premise of the previous movie was to rewrite time. So pointing out that things don't match up to how time was, is not a goof. It's effective and consistent with all causality theories. <br>------------------------<br><br>Since X-Men - L'inizio, many characters have barely aged despite the passage of 21 years. Some mutants have been confirmed in earlier movies to age slowly. While it is not clear why Moira MacTaggert should remain youthful, Charles remarks on this astounding fact, thereby acknowledging the problem, if not explaining it, within the story. <br>------------------------<br><br>Although Quicksilver wears an Atari shirt that is late 1990s/early 2000s design, he has been previously and purposefully dressed by producers in clothing from a later time period (see X-Men - Giorni di un futuro passato and his Pink Floyd T-Shirt) in order to make him seem "ahead of his time" <br>------------------------<br><br>Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Nowhere in the film does it say it is set in January 1983, just that the events take place sometime in 1983, 10 years after X-Men: Days Of Future Past. This means that all the anachronisms mentioning dates between January & December 1983 are not goofs at all. Also, the movie is set in a fictional universe, so things like the wrong sized satellite dishes in Cairo could easily be explained by the technology based on this non-existent universe. No-one claims that a computer such as Cerebro is an error yet it obviously does not exist in real life. <br>------------------------<br><br>All alleged anachronisms and factual mistakes can be explained by the fact that the story, like everything in the X-Men cinematic universe, explicitly takes place in an alternate reality (Earth-295) than ours (Earth-616) where all supposedly 'wrong' music, fashion, items,technology, events etc. are all already in the time-line. The parallel 'dimensions' and various transgressions of the same conflict are often even essential to the plot development in both the comics and the movies and sometimes 'errors' are intentionally placed to accentuate the differences between worlds. <br>------------------------<br><br>When they are listing the countries that are nuclear capable in 1983 the list is wrong as it excludes France and includes India. The full list should be USA, USSR, UK, France, China, Israel, India and Pakistan. India performed its first nuclear weapons test in 1974. Pakistan did not conduct nuclear test before the late 1990s, but it is widely believed possess nuclear weapons already in the mid-1980s. Israel does not officially have nuclear weapons, but it likely possessed them since the late 1960s. Apocalypse could have learned about their through Cerebro's telepathic capabilities. <br>------------------------<br><br>The opening takes place over 1000 years before the building of the Great Pyramids at Giza and over 800 before the building of the first attempt at a pyramid, the stepped pyramid at Djoser. However, the anachronism is explained by the post-credit scene of X-Men - Giorni di un futuro passato which showed a younger Apocalypse single-handedly making pyramids with his mind. <br>------------------------<br><br>Apocalypse, on introducing himself to Magneto, proclaims: I've been called many things over many lifetimes: Ra, Krishna, Yahweh...He names others, including Elohim, a plural, used only once in the early verses of Genesis, and never again. It implies a past plurality, or multiple personalities in one body, which is a logical implication, since he can transfer his personality from body to body, so that he is in fact, many people. <br>------------------------<br><br>Numerous characters in the movie come from other countries and speak other languages (Magneto's family is Polish, Nightcrawler comes from Germany) and these characters speak in their ethnic tongues, which is accurate. Yet said characters occasionally speak perfect English with no explanation. It is possible they learned English in schools as a second language, but they would not speak it this flawlessly. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Magneto is destroying the earth, we see a vessel for the carrier "CMA CGM" at a port being destroyed. That company was formed in 1996. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the shot of 1983 Sydney getting destroyed by Magneto, the Anzac bridge can be seen to the right of the screen. The bridge was not built until 1995. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the car is cut in half during the final battle you can clearly see both halves are a couple feet a part. However in the next scene when it lands on Storm it appears only to have spread wide enough apart for her body to fit in between. <br>------------------------<br><br>Stryker flies all the way from the destroyed X-Mansion to the Weapon X base. The former is in Western New York, and the latter was previously referred to as being in the Canadian Rockies. Both locations are over 2,000 miles apart, a distance that a helicopter cannot traverse twice in a row without refueling. <br>------------------------<br><br>The launching of nukes from missile silo and submarines by operators under controlled by Apocalypse should not be that easily done by just a few crew members turning the launch key. The launching process involves receiving codes and authorization from ground command as well as verification between the captain and second in command on the submarine. The launching key of a submarine is also stored away in a secured box and not left at the hands of the operator. <br>------------------------<br><br>Wolverine (AKA Weapon X) has been apparently held captive by Stryker in the secret Canadian base over the course of the decade leading up to the film. The problem with this is that when Stryker captures Wolverine at the end of the previous movie, his eyes glow yellow, revealing that it is Mystique in disguise. But we see the actual Stryker had captured Wolverine. In fact, Mystique started her life as a rescuer for mutants at the end of DOFP, so she has rescued Wolverine. But Stryker have shown so great interest in him that he could have hunted him down and captured for good. <br>------------------------<br><br>Magneto is controlling all the metal around him, yet the X-men are able to fly in with the plane. Magneto should have destroyed the plane, because it's made of metal. However, since Magneto's power is based on magnetism, it only affects magnetic metals like iron, nickel or chromium. A plane made exclusively of non-magnetic metal like aluminum or magnesium (like most modern military aircraft) would not be affected by his power. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alex (Havoc) shoots his laser beam at Apocalypse (which then doesn't hit him, instead hitting the engine), Alex is last seen kneeling down in front of the second horizontal corridor. In the next vision of the hallway, Quicksilver runs in through the third corridor and the camera angle shows what's behind him (including Hank and co.). Where he is standing, you should be able to see Havoc kneeling down right behind him but he is nowhere to be found (meaning Alex could/should have not been killed). <br>------------------------<br><br>When Magneto finds his daughter caught by the Militia, he asks why they are not wearing their badges and they say they did not want to bring any metal. After the Militia kills Magneto's daughter and wife, he sees his daughter's metal locket and uses it to kill the men. Since her locket was made of metal, he could have felt it since the beginning and used it to prevent them from killing his family. <br>------------------------<br><br>Apocalypse restrains Charles' arms while attempting to transfer his consciousness into him yet Nightcrawler is able to pick him up later as though the restraints were never there. Even considering Nightcrawler's teleportation abilities, this should be impossible. <br>------------------------<br><br>The arrow that kills Magneto's wife and daughter, is visibly not shot with enough power to penetrate the way that it does. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the nuclear weapons have all been launched, they're rhyming off all the countries that have launched them and they say England but England is not actually in possession of any nuclear/Trident warheads. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is. Whilst some of these will be located in Scotland at the Faslane Naval Base on the River Clyde others will be out at sea maintain the permanent at seas deterrent. <br>------------------------<br><br>
