Nel 1869 due ragazzi, Caleb e Benjamin, seppelliscono spaventati una misteriosa cassa sotto terra. <br>Cento anni dopo, nel 1969, il dodicenne Alan Parrish sente fra gli scavi di un'impresa edile un rullo di tamburi e ritrova la cassa. La apre e scopre un misterioso gioco da tavolo chiamato Jumanji, che porta a casa. Dopo un alterco con il padre, il ricco proprietario di una fabbrica di scarpe, Alan mostra il gioco alla sua amica Sarah. Le istruzioni sono semplici: le pedine si muovono tirando i dadi, i numeri doppi tirano ancora e il primo che arriva alla fine vince. Sarah tira involontariamente i dadi e iniziano a manifestarsi delle caratteristiche inquietanti del gioco: le pedine si muovono da sole e a ogni tiro di dadi una scritta compare al centro della tavola, facendo scaturire gli orrori delle foreste amazzoniche e africane nella realtà. <br>Dopo il lancio di Sarah, dei pipistrelli africani compaiono nel camino. Alan effettua un secondo tiro per errore e il gioco lo risucchia, informandolo che dovrà stare nella giungla finché non sarebbe comparso un 5 o un 8. Subito dopo Sarah fugge inseguita dai pipistrelli. Il gioco rimane così sospeso e Alan resta intrappolato nella giungla. <br>Ventisei anni dopo, nel 1995, la magnifica villa dei Parrish è ormai in malora. Un giorno una signora di nome Nora Shepherd decide di acquistare la casa e va a vivere lì con i suoi due nipoti, Peter e Judy, figli del fratello morto con la moglie in un incidente d'auto in Canada qualche mese prima. <br>I due ragazzini trovano il gioco in soffitta, guidati dal suono dei tamburi. Peter e Judy cominciano così a giocare a Jumanji, scoprendo anch'essi le caratteristiche che avevano spaventato i precedenti giocatori. Dopo aver fatto apparire uno sciame di zanzare giganti e un branco di scimmie, leggono la seconda parte delle istruzioni, apprendendo che tutto quanto uscito dal gioco scomparirà solo se un giocatore raggiunge il traguardo, pronunciando la parola “Jumanji”. Avendo fatto due 1 al tiro precedente, Peter fa un secondo tiro che ha come risultato 5. I ragazzini sono attaccati da un leone della savana, ma il numero 5 libera dal gioco anche Alan, ormai adulto, che dopo un duello con la bestia, riesce a rinchiuderla in una camera da letto. <br>Alan, cresciuto e inselvatichito, scopre una città molto diversa da come la ricordava, malandata e in piena crisi dopo il fallimento della fabbrica di suo padre. Apprende da un barbone che i suoi genitori sono morti e successivamente incontra anche Carl Bentley, un ex operaio della fabbrica Parrish, ora poliziotto. <br>I tre tornano in casa e i ragazzini decidono di terminare la partita in modo che le cose tornino alla normalità. Scoprono però di essersi inseriti nella stessa partita che avevano iniziato Alan e Sarah nel 1969. Per finire la partita manca quindi la quarta giocatrice: Sarah Whittle. La trovano nella stessa casa dove abitava una volta. Ora vive nell'anonimato come una sensitiva con lo pseudonimo di Madame Serena. Dopo molti sforzi riescono a convincerla a giocare. Il tiro di Sarah fa comparire degli enormi rampicanti e piante carnivore velenose, e il tiro successivo di Alan evoca il suo acerrimo nemico, il diabolico e micidiale cacciatore Van Pelt, che cova un profondo risentimento verso Alan. Superate queste difficoltà, Judy tira i dadi, ed ecco apparire una mandria di bestie impazzite. Nel trambusto un pellicano ruba il gioco ed il gruppo è costretto a inseguirlo fino al fiume fuori città. Lì riescono con fatica a riprendersi il gioco. <br>Nel frattempo gli animali evocati invadono la città causando incidenti e gettando la popolazione nel panico. Carl, imbattutosi nel gruppo, decide di arrestare Alan capendo che è coinvolto nella faccenda. Alan, durante il viaggio verso la centrale, confida a Carl la sua vera identità e questi lo libera. <br>Intanto Peter per cercare di finire il gioco prova a barare, ma questo lo punisce facendolo retrocedere con la pedina e facendogli assumere sembianze scimmiesche. I tre vanno in città, ormai in preda all'anarchia, dove Van Pelt riesce a sottrarre loro il gioco. Inseguendolo in un supermarket, Sarah e i ragazzi riescono a recuperare il gioco, mentre l'arrivo tempestivo di Alan e Carl in auto mette temporaneamente fuori gioco il cacciatore. <br>I quattro protagonisti così tornano a casa per completare il gioco, ma l'abitazione ormai è completamente invasa dai rampicanti. Il nuovo tiro di Sarah fa comparire un violentissimo acquazzone che allaga la casa all'inverosimile e nelle cui acque si annida un coccodrillo, contro cui il gruppo deve lottare. L'arrivo di Carl e Nora, che aprono la porta venendo investiti dall'ondata che ne fuoriesce, fa svuotare la casa dall'acqua. <br>Il gioco continua in soffitta e ad Alan tocca la maledizione che rende il pavimento come sabbie mobili. Il tempestivo intervento di Judy con un nuovo tiro di dadi fa tornare il pavimento alla normalità, bloccando tuttavia Alan e Sarah che restano incastrati nel pavimento. Peter, con il suo tiro, invoca dei ragni giganti, costringendo i ragazzini a tenerli lontani dagli adulti intrappolati. Nel frattempo però, un fiore dei rampicanti spunta dal pavimento e spara un dardo avvelenato a Judy, che perde i sensi. Dopo che Sarah tira i dadi con la bocca, avviene un potente terremoto che spacca la casa a metà, liberando i due adulti e facendo scappare i ragni. Alan finisce al pianterreno e viene braccato da Van Pelt che gli punta addosso un fucile. Alan è costretto a lanciare i dadi a terra, i quali rotolando finalmente segnano il punteggio necessario a far vincere Alan, che pronuncia l'agognato "Jumanji", un istante prima che un proiettile sparato dal cacciatore lo raggiunga. <br>Tutto ciò che è stato evocato e distorto dal gioco, viene risucchiato in un vortice e contemporaneamente il tempo torna indietro a quando è cominciata la partita: un Alan bambino si ritrova abbracciato a Sarah nel 1969. La sera stessa Alan, dopo essersi chiarito con suo padre, decide con Sarah di buttare il gioco nel fiume e quest'ultima gli confessa il suo amore e lo bacia. <br>Nella vigilia di Natale del 1994, la casa è addobbata a festa per la tradizionale cena, Alan e Sarah sono felicemente sposati e stanno per avere un bambino. I genitori di Alan sono vivi e per telefono comunicano al figlio che arriveranno per il giorno di Natale. Al banchetto sono invitati Carl, Nora, Judy, Peter e i loro genitori. Alan e Sarah sono molto emozionati nel rivedere Judy e Peter dopo 25 anni, nonostante questi ultimi non li riconoscano, inoltre "salvano" la vita ai genitori dei due fratelli chiedendo in anticipo dei progetti per la fabbrica, in modo che non partano e che non muoiano nell'incidente. <br>Nella scena finale, due ragazze, mentre passeggiano su una spiaggia, sentono un suono di tamburi provenire dalla scatola di Jumanji, semisepolta nella sabbia.

In 1969, Carl shows Alan the training shoe he's been working on for almost a year. However, it's not a prototype, but a finished shoe representing many man-years of development, using 1990s materials. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the game is played in the attic Judy tells Sarah that she can win if she rolls a twelve, but she only rolls a three. On her next turn Allen says she can win with a seven, however 12 minus 3 means she would have needed a nine. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan asks Carl what year it is, Carl thinks he's asking about his car, and he said it was brand new. When Judy clarifies, she states the current year is 1995. Carl's car is at least three years old when this movie takes place, since the Chevy Caprice's skirted rear wheel wells were replaced with rounded wheel wells on models after 1992 so the car is not brand new. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan finds the game, he finds it in the dirt wall at the construction site near the factory. When Sarah asks Alan where he found the game, he tells her he found it inside the factory. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan drives the car for the first time we see him put the car into a slide around the corner and then correct the slide with opposite steering. This is an advanced driving technique beyond the ability of most drivers, let alone somebody who has never driven a car before. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Peter cheats, he says he was only 10 spaces away, after Judy reads the riddle, and Sarah asks if he cheated, Peter says he dropped the dice so they'd land on 12. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Alan shaves for the first time, there are cuts and pieces of tissue on his face. In the next shot, there are no cuts. <br>------------------------<br><br>After the brakes go out in the police car and it crashes into the store, the policeman simply refills the master cylinder with brake fluid to fix the brakes. The previous scene showed that there was a hole in the line that released fluid, which would cause the brakes to not work again, yet the policeman continues to use the brakes with no ill-effect. <br>------------------------<br><br>There were 31 spaces on the game for each player from start to finish, but Alan couldn't have finished when he did, since his rolls were: 5~?~7~3, and the second roll couldn't have been any higher than 11. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan, Judy and Peter are in the car, the mosquito outside cracks the windshield. But after they start the car and park it outside Alan's home, the crack disappears. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the EMTs are pulling the woman bitten by a mosquito out of her car, she is wearing boots which come to mid-calf. In the next shot where they are putting her into the ambulance, her legs are bare and she is wearing pumps on her feet. <br>------------------------<br><br>Carl's license plate is G2298, but when he recovers it from the monkeys' joy ride, it has Mrs. Thomas' plate, DBA454, on the front. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the aunt flags down Carl to ask for a ride home, he's wearing his seat belt. When the vine attacks him and he has to jump out of the car, he does so without reaching over to unbuckle his seat belt. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan tries to get the game back from the pelican, he puts his hand in the water to get a fish. As his hand appears with the fish, it is dry. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Mr. and Mrs. Parish in the beginning of the movie are leaving for the evening, they are in the car and talking for a moment and the car is not running. Then Mr. Parish has his left hand on the steering wheel and his right hand on the gearshift, and then the motor is started. He could not start the car without turning the key, and he does not have a hand on the key. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Aunt Nora backs into the door in awe of her house being covered in vines, the claw marks are returned again; after opening the door, discovering the lion, and closing it again, the claw marks have, again, disappeared. <br>------------------------<br><br>As the aunt and Carl are "surfing" down the street of rushing water, after kicking the door open containing the monsoon, they pass six cars which are the same three cars repeated. <br>------------------------<br><br>When young Alan heads down the stairs of the factory to go face the bullies, he turns to look at the machine after Carl's shoe breaks it, and two ladies walk up the stairs. The shot cuts to Samuel demanding who is responsible, and when it cuts back to Alan, the same ladies walk up the stairs again. <br>------------------------<br><br>Judy's braids change (they have to be fixed throughout but the hair department doesn't make sure that they are uniform) as the movie continues. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the beginning of the movie, when Allen is fighting the lion, the kids are seen running behind him into the other room. Allen then traps the lion in that room and finds the kids hidden in the closet. <br>------------------------<br><br>In the store scene, while the hunter is under the paint, the cop takes his gun. The gun is also seen in the cops car when he drives away. At the end of the movie, the hunter shows up with the gun in his hand. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the game is finished, all the wild animals (as well as Van Pelt) get sucked back into the game, yet the wild plants and vines don't seem to. (The pelicans, spiders and crocodile are not inside the "tornado" either.) <br>------------------------<br><br>When the monkeys are in the kitchen, one of them throws a knife at the door, which sticks. After Alan enters the kitchen, the knife is gone. <br>------------------------<br><br>Carl's hands become uncuffed as Alan starts driving. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Allen opens the chest containing the board game, he reaches in and wipes some of the sand from the top. The scene cuts away and when the scene cuts back he lifts the game out, with the sand undisturbed. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the shoe factory in 1995, when Alan runs to his Father's old office, the writing on the door reads, "SAM PARISH PRESIDENT" and another identical door reading "SALES" is seen on the wall opposite to this door in the background. 20 seconds later when Peter and Judy Shepherd comes in to the room, the door of the room reads "SALES". Which means the they had actually entered the wrong room which was opposite to Sam Parrish's old Office. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Peter is hanging from the branch to get the game out of the water, "Jumanji" is face down. But when it cuts to a shot of Peter's face, it is face up. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Carl refills the master cylinder with brake fluid in his patrol car, the hood falls off after he shuts it, which reveals a round air filter element (which the Caprice never had this type) and then after backing out of the store, the correct square plastic box type air plenum appears. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Allen is fighting the lion and traps it into one of the rooms, the lion scratches the other side of the door with his claws, leaving the door with large claw marks on door. When the door is shown again there is no claw marks on the left side of door nor on the right side either. There are only paw marks on the right side of door. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Peter comes running out of the attic after seeing the bats, there is a chair next to the door that has a sheet on it, but when Aunt Nora comes up the stairs a shot later, the sheet is gone. <br>------------------------<br><br>In some scenes after Alan's fight with Billy Jessup, Alan has one black eye. In other scenes, he appears to have two black eyes. <br>------------------------<br><br>The shape of young Alan's black eye bruise changes. <br>------------------------<br><br>On her return to the game, Sarah drops the dice and the carnivorous vines appear. A vine wraps itself around Peter's left leg. However, on the next view of his leg (while he is still standing) the vine is wrapped around his leg in the opposite direction. It changes direction in subsequent shots. <br>------------------------<br><br>After the vine incident, Alan captures and wrestles Sarah back to the game. They walk past Peter who is holding the sword. Next shot, Alan carries the sword into the room where Sarah sits down to the game. <br>------------------------<br><br>Alan runs from the house pursued by Van Pelt. As Van Pelt runs along the road, sometimes there is bright sunshine on the sidewalk. And then not. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan handcuffs Carl to the police cruiser, he throws the car keys into the woods. Upon hearing of Judy, Peter and Sarah's location on the police radio, without retrieving the keys from the woods, he gets in the cruiser with Carl, starts the engine and drives away. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan is startled by the grandfather clock and drops the dice, one die reads two, and the other, three. When his game piece starts moving in the next shot, it is apparent that neither die read two. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan is eating his dinner, and his Dad is shouting at him, the knife and fork on Alan's dinner plate moves about between shots. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Allan pulls the chest out of the dirt, he brushes some dirt off the top, then pauses with his hands touching the lid. It then cuts to a close-up of his face in which much of the lid is also visible, and his hands are not there. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the aunt flags down Carl to ask for a ride home, a filming location police checkpoint can be seen further up the road with a policeman standing outside of a police car. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan helps Judy down from the chandelier a hand appears to the right of the screen. A crew member was obviously at the side to help steady the actress when she's set on the ground. <br>------------------------<br><br>Reflection in the grandfather clock when it chimes and Alan is startled by it. <br>------------------------<br><br>Just before the monsoon, the string moving Peter's tail is visible. <br>------------------------<br><br>Reflection in the metal door when Sarah is being chased out of the Parrish home by the bats. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Sarah gets rejected from the ATM, Van Pelt steals the game from Peter. In the rush, Peter steals it back and runs away. The driver of the second car (that almost hits him) appears to get out. However, after a cut scene of the stampeding animals, we see Peter run towards the open driver's door. As the camera turns, we see a foot under the door, which quickly retracts back into the car. The person is not seen inside the car, as Peter hides in the driver's seat as the animals crush the car. <br>------------------------<br><br>As Alan is merged in with the attic floor, a wire is visible on the first tarantula, controlling it. <br>------------------------<br><br>Just before Aunt Nora sees the stampede, there is a shot of her car driving from right to left. During this shot, the shadow of the crew is visible on the ground. <br>------------------------<br><br>Audible not visible.After the stampede Van Pelt walks through the house. There is debris underfoot. As he walks across the litter his right foot creates a tick tock sound from the broken tiles. The sound is repeated on the next fall of his right foot. This is evidence of a Foley artist's work. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the inside of the house is flooded as a result of the monsoon, the water level rises over halfway to the ceiling until Carl kicks the door and unwittingly releases the water out the front door. But it would have been impossible for the water to pool in such a great amount because there was already a massive hole in the wall from when the stampeding animals tore through the house. The water would have simply flowed out of the house instead of pooling at all. <br>------------------------<br><br>A lion comes out of a jungle-themed board game. Lions do not live in the jungle, they live on grassy plains. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the paint cans all fall onto Van Pelt, he is shown having color splotches all over him. When paint is at a store, it is white until color is mixed into it. <br>------------------------<br><br>Although the film says Carl invented the trainer in 1969, it was actually invented by Henry Nelson McKinney in 1917. <br>------------------------<br><br>The slow rhino seen at the back of the stampede at 1h 45m 4s was an animation error they left-in. An incorrect frame rate had been set for the element, making it run slower. They kept it in, whilst adding the foot stomp and wheezing sounds. <br>------------------------<br><br>After the stampede Van Pelt walks through the house. There is debris underfoot. As he walks across the litter his right foot creates a tick tock sound from the broken tiles. The sound is repeated on the next fall of his right foot. This is evidence of a Foley artist's work. <br>------------------------<br><br>The stampede makes two rather large holes in the outside walls of the house when entering and exiting but the monsoon still manages to flood the house.<br><br>Aside form the more obvious fact that the game can distort time and space, create things and beings out of nothing and generally ignore the laws of nature, a jungle grew up in the house before the flood and could have sealed the holes. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the end of the movie when Van Pelt shoots Allen, the bullet never reaches Allen because it starts to disappear into the tornado along with the rifle that Van Pelt purchased at the store. Both the rifle and bullet are not from the game like the animals, Van, vines, therefore it should not have disappeared. However, it is shown that the game reverses the 26 year gap that was the result of playing the game, so the gun and bullet went away because time was going away as well. <br>------------------------<br><br>All the animals in the herd of elephants, zebras, rhinos, and such seem to always stay together as they run at different speeds. Do the zebras and smaller animals constantly stop every now and then to let the others catch up? They might as well be, given that it's a magic stampede summoned by a magic board game as a challenge, and not a real animal stampede. <br>------------------------<br><br>At the end of the movie, the kids lock up Jumanji and throw it into the river. Jumanji was later found with no locks on it at all. However, the kids threw the game into the river in the year 1969. Presumably the final scene on the beach is set in the year 1995 as the previous "Christmas party" scene would indicate. It is entirely possible over the 26-year span ('69-'95) that the game had been found and played by others who didn't lock it up. <br>------------------------<br><br>(at around 28 mins) After Peter rolls a five which will release Alan, the message reads "His fangs are sharp, He likes your taste, Your party better move poste haste".'Post haste', or 'post-haste' is an expression meaning quickly and is derived from markings on mail, it shouldn't have the 'e' at the end of 'poste'. However, the game is well over 100 years old, and spellings often change over time. Furthermore, this may be British English from the African continent rather than American English. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the mosquito is on the windshield, Alan refers to it as "he". Only female mosquitoes bite, not males. However arguably, many people do not know this and considering Allan never even finished the sixth grade, it could be presumed that he didn't know either (or the other two children for that matter). <br>------------------------<br><br>When Allan handcuffs Carl to the cop car door and begins to walk away, he throws the keys into the adjacent field. Alan then hears a radio call over the police radio of the hostage situation at the store. Allan runs back to the cop car, gets in and starts the car without retrieving the keys from the field. However, as Allan tosses them, Carl yells, "My handcuff keys!" indicating they were only for this purpose and that a different key starts the car. <br>------------------------<br><br>Alan sank through the floor so that only his face was level with the floor. When Nora saw him hanging from the ceiling only his hips to legs were visible. This suggested that the cavity between the floorboards in the upper room and the ceiling in lower room was at least two feet deep which is unreasonable. However, this house is quite old, and building styles have changed considerably through time. It is reasonable for a mansion to have a 2 foot gap in order to allow for insulation between the levels. <br>------------------------<br><br>When it is Alan's turn to roll the dice & the clue he reads releases Van Pelt from the game, he's afraid and terrified & calls Van Pelt by name as if these two characters have crossed paths during Alan's time trapped inside the game (which he probably has). Yet later when Sarah tells him that he could've told them that Van Pelt existed in the game and that he hunts people, Alan says "Well I didn't know, okay?! It's just a roll of the dice!", even though he clearly reacted with fear because he knew who/what exactly was about to come out of the game and come after him. However, he is clearly being sarcastic, most likely to move the conversation along so as to get back to the game. <br>------------------------<br><br>The game declares: "A tiny bite can make you itch..." Mosquitoes do not bite. However, just about everyone calls a sting from a mosquito a "mozzie bite" or a "mosquito bite" <br>------------------------<br><br>While viewing the abandoned house in 1995 Aunt Nora tells the Realtor that her brother and his wife were killed in a car crash in Canada. Neither Alan nor Sarah were present to hear this important detail. However in the 'fixed' 1995 timeline at the Christmas party, both react in knowing horror as the children's parents discuss this same upcoming vacation trip. However, the children could have told Alan and Sarah how their parents died while they were walking from one catastrophe to the next. <br>------------------------<br><br>After Van Pelt gets knocked over with the shelf of paint cans, Sarah grabs the Jumanji game from the pile. The sound of the paint cans are empty. <br>------------------------<br><br>When the floor starts to split apart, the "wood" around Alan's chin bends as if it were made of rubber. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Alan runs into abandoned shoe factory after being released from the game, Judy and Peter can be seen frozen on background. <br>------------------------<br><br>When Van Pelt is firing on the police car. The end of gun barrel is clearly seen. It is an obvious prop gun. The barrel is made from thin wall tubing. A real gun barrel would be much heavier. <br>------------------------<br><br>In scenes where Alan, Sarah, Judy and Peter were playing the game in the house, none of them hear the monkeys and the lion messing around inside. <br>------------------------<br><br>
