Nella reggia di Itaca, i Proci fanno baldoria, mentre Penelope, sposa fedele, tesse e ritesse la sua tela, confidando nel ritorno di Ulisse. Questi, dopo la distruzione di Troia, erra per molti anni, coi suoi compagni, esposto ad ogni sorta di travagli e pericoli, che affronta e vince con lo sforzo fisico, la salda tempra dell'animo e la sottigliezza dell'ingegno. Si sottrae così al richiamo delle sirene, all'ira del Ciclope accecato, agli incanti di Circe, gettato dalla tempesta sulla spiaggia dell'isola dei Feaci. Ulisse conosce Nausicaa, la giovane figlia di re Alcinoo, ed avendo perduto la memoria del passato, corrisponde all'ingenuo amore della fanciulla, ma la memoria ritorna all'eroe mentre contempla l'immenso mare: preso congedo dai suoi ospiti, Ulisse parte alla volta di Itaca.

Neptune was the Roman name for the god of the sea. (Anyway, Ulysses itself is the Roman name of Odysseus.) <br>------------------------<br><br>When Ulysses and his men crush the grapes to make wine for Poliphemus, Ulysses gives the juice directly to him. It hasn't had time to ferment. So, Poliphemus is getting drunk from just grape juice. <br>------------------------<br><br>Antinoos 'fails' to string the bow of Ulysses but it is clear that he has bent the bow enough and an effortless movement of the looped string would have been all that was required. <br>------------------------<br><br>There are inconsistencies of scale with the giant Polyphemus: for instance a human scale wineskin is nearly as big in his hand as the sailor he devours. <br>------------------------<br><br>
